People Always Choose NOT to Change

When I’m in a bookstore, I often feel drawn to open up a specific book to a specific page. There I will always find a specific message for myself – and this example is not different.

People Always Choose Not to Change – and how true is that?

In my practice, I believe people come to me with the highest intention to grow and heal their wounds. However, in the vast majority of cases where that healing does not occur, if we peel away all the layers and excuses, it simply comes down to the simple fact that they CHOSE NOT TO CHANGE

So why would someone CHOOSE NOT TO CHANGE? It seems illogical that someone would choose to stay stuck in a situation that wasn’t serving them. But it happens all the time.

Let’s look at some of the main reasons I’ve found for why people choose not to change …

1 – You don’t want to change. Maybe the reason for change is due to pressure from parents, family, a boss, friends, or even society. If the need for change doesn’t come from within, the ability to dig deep when the change gets challenging will simply not be there.

2. You don’t think you can change. Change is scary, and many times it is more painful to remain stuck than chance making the change. That puts up a big wall and can make you think that change is impossible.

3. Your environment is holding you back. If you are, for example, trying to lose weight then it will be a lot harder if the people around you are eating junk food every day. You need positive role models to help you in your transition. Remember – you will resemble the 5 people you associate with the most!

4. You dont feel enough pain yet. Tony Robbins said it very succinctly – “People only change when the pain of staying the same exceeds that of making the change”. Maybe you dont feel enough pain yet from staying the same? Thus, there is no real catalyst for change.

5. You dont know how to make the change. This is a common problem. But there are many people and resources available to help you through any problem or issue. You particularly want to engage those people who have gone through the same pain as you and come out on the other side happy and successful! Having a mentor and guide through that process is very helpful and can speed up the healing process.

So, for all the pains in your life, are you CHOOSING NOT TO CHANGE? Think deeply about it.

So – Do you want to make a change in your life?
